Plot
Kiev, June 1942, in German occupied Ukraine a football match took place between the Luftwaffe and a team from a local bakery, largely comprised of the sparkling pre-war Dynamo Kiev team. The match became an allegory of resistance; its consequences were brutal.
The Final Whistle is the story of the Klimenko brothers; Sascha is a famous football player and Pavel is a rogue kind of a guy. Both join the guerrilla war.
The Nazis retaliate by launching a relentless propaganda campaign, to try and win back the population and to subdue the rebels. One of their devious schemes is a soccer tournament.
Sascha, tired of all the blood, joins the newly formed Start FC.
However in the final game they have to face their deadly enemy -- the German team. Threatened by the SS to give up the match and cheered-on by a whole city the players have to choose between life and death.

I will fight no more. My war is over.

Do you remember what father used to tell us when we were kids.
Sascha doesn't react.
PAVEL (CONT'D)
He taught us that when someone knocks you out, you're not supposed to give up, you are supposed to get up.
SASCHA
That is what I am doing.
